Impassioned Innovation

Welcome to the Arrhythmias Unit, Moncloa University Hospital, HLA Hospital Group.

The Arrhythmias Unit, Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratory headed by Dr. Jesús Paylos uses the latest techniques to diagnose and treat arrhythmias, and has become a flagship national and international center. We are pioneers in Spain, and among the world leaders in definitive treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation using the cryoablation balloon catheter, having obtained excellent results endorsed by the national and international scientific community, with a 87.7% success rate at 7 years’ followup.

By adjusting for each patient’s specific characteristics and factors, we strive for personalized treatment of their cardiopathy.

Electrophysiology Presentation

Electrophysiology Presentation. Dr. Paylos, director of the Arrhythmias Unit, Moncloa University Hospital, explains what this branch of cardiology, dedicated to the study and treatment of heart rhythm disorders, is all about.

How do we handle it?

We help you detect and treat your symptoms

Pulmonary Vein Isolation (PVI), with its disconnection of the left atrial muscle from the arrhythmogenic activity of the pulmonary veins, is the cornerstone of a definitive curative treatment in patients with persistently recurrent and symptomatic paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) in the absence of structural cardiopathy resistant to or intolerant to optimum treatment with antiarrhythmic drugs.

Cardiac ablation is a procedure we use to treat various types of heart rhythm disturbances which consists in selectively eliminating that area of the heart which is causing the arrhythmia. This is supposed to prevent the abnormal electrical rhythms or signals from moving through the heart.

The electrophysiology study is performed to obtain a diagnosis for patients who have or might have heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias). It allows us to identify the type and severity of the arrhythmias. It is also useful in honing our focus as to which treatment would be best.
